I am a big fan of the Belgian surrealistic painter René Magritte so one can imagine my face when I bumped into this view in Venice.
It is not the scene that attracted my attention but the streetlamp and the atmosphere that emanated from it. I could easily picture the night slowly slipping into the photograph, but giving an imperial place to the imaginary and surreal and leaving a critical part to sunshine – although darkness had already claimed its rights.
A few questions appeared to me: how come imagination plays such a significant role in our lives? How come there are specific elements that attract the eye and others that will go completely unnoticed? Have you ever thought about this?
