Flying is an adventurous undertaking as you know your destination but never what will happen during your flight and/or upon arrival. This is why I wrote down the questions that usually pop up (but remain unanswered) throughout every flight:
1. Why must I show my boarding ticket at places where no one cares?
2. Why do I always have to buy something I do not need at Duty-Free? Why do I refuse to accept that the price is the same at home and that I will have to schlep this breakable glass perfume bottle with me?
3. Why are people so nervous when catching a seat on the plane if theirs is already booked?
4. Why are people carrying more hand luggage than fifteen camels when boarding the aircraft? More importantly, where do they hide the “pekkeleh” before and during the flight?
5. How come there is always one passenger who knows half of the plane, with a compulsive need to show this around, “not noticing” the enormous queue of travelers behind him?
6. Why are some skinny people taking the place of three Sumo fighters next to (and on) me?
7. Why do people, needing to attend the toilets 7575 times a minute, choose a window seat?
8. How come I always sit next to people with heavy overqualified flatulence problems?
9. Why does my neighbor love eating garlic/onion/tuna/sardine sandwiches, accompanied by a non-stop psychology/philosophy/political session?
10. What is the secret of passengers that put on their hoodies, turn on their music, close their eyes, fall asleep during takeoff, and wake up at landing, looking all awake and fresh? Are they members of a secret society? Aliens? Dear “You know who you are”, what is the magic potion?
11. How come there are hundred fifty passengers in an aircraft and thirty-five covers and twenty-two pillows? Are we supposed to share them? Is this a team-building or an undercover matchmaking event?
12. Why do I always have to close and open my window blinds? Is this a coded language between aircrafts? Aliens? Stars? Clouds?
13. How come I never remember the most comfortable sleeping position from one flight to the next?
14. How come I never fall asleep during flights? How come when I finally do:
– My (unknown) neighbor remembers this crucial anecdote?
– My neighbor remembers he has to run to the toilet for the 7576th time?
– Breakfast/lunch/dinner is served?
– The flight attendant wakes me up with a stupid question related to, of course, the window blinds?
– The pilot apologizes for the turbulences?
– The pilot announces we are about to land?
15. Why am I always sitting behind the passenger who must stretch and lie down on me? Why cannot he do this like me, discreetly?
16. How come the film they are screening is the thriller I watched about a week ago?
17. Why do I always forget that the movie sound is the best sleeping pill ever?
18. How come I cannot stop photographing the stunning clouds scenery when this was done during my last trip too? And why am I still overwhelmed by the beautiful invention of planes after all these years?
Because I LOVE traveling, and flying remains one of the most fun and exciting adventures!
I cannot wait to share the photographic gems I shot these last weeks! Are you ready? I am and am happy to unveil them to you!
