URBAN LANDSCAPES

A city has its vibe and history. My urban photography is trying to unveil part of its treasures while leaving space for imagination...

Urban photography has always been a precious part of my photography. I love observing a street scene, shooting its urban environment and urban life, and taking time to develop the street photos that will emerge from the journey.

City photography has enabled me as a street photographer to better look at the surrounding urban landscape and open my eyes to the actual atmosphere of a corner and street.
Street art shows the reality and vulnerability of a town, its inhabitants, and passersby. The zoom lens, image quality, and angle are significant elements, but the daring side of a photograph will add the missing touch and lead to an unforgettable image.

When looking at Diane Arbus, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Vivian Maier, and Martin Parr‘s photographs, all talented street photographers, you will notice that they unveiled some hidden and touching sides of New York, Hong Kong, and Paris. These ingredients are needed to reach the attaching side of excellent urban photography and will most probably lead to a mesmerizing and unseen street portrait.

My urban photography is trying to unveil part of its treasures while leaving space for imagination. This photo was taken in Spa and features a beautiful tree, near the Art Nouveau entrance to the city's therms, one of the many treasures of the city. A city has its vibe and history.
This photo was taken in Sarajevo. Although it was taken in an older part of the city the bridge is truly modern and very photogenic. In "Walk on By", the bridge seems to symbolize ultra-modernity trying to slowly make its way through Sarajevo....
Picture of a street scene in Montmartre, Paris, featuring its looks at night. The only elements which are not in black and white on the picture are the discreet green leaves of an adjacent tree. I went for a walk in Montmartre, surrounded by flirting street lamps at night as it offers the opportunity to travel in time and space.
This photo was taken in Tel Aviv on its tayelet, on the seashore where a caroussel was set up for children to enjoy.
This photo was taken in New Orleans and clearly states the mood after Catherina.
This photo was taken in Florence while walking around and next the Arno river. I came across these brave kayaking people who were obviously going to face a humongous storm.
Poseidon's Unpaid Water Bill - an abandoned, weathered amphitheater painted in faded shades of turquoise and blue under a moody sky. The seating rows are cracked and peeling, evoking a quiet sense of nostalgia and forgotten stories. The scene feels still, vast, and contemplative.
When I shot "When in Antwerp in Belgium", I could not help wondering if Het Eilandje had the same effect on the man in the picture who is daydreaming in front of the Schelde, the three adjoining buildings and the Havenhuis.
This photo was shot in Puglia in Italy in the winter, when there were barely any tourists. It was the best decision I could have made. The photo features a curved old village street, with a smoking man in the background and a cat at the front of the picture.
The photo features a beautiful clouded sky, the diamond-shaped Havenhuis designed by Zaha Hadid, and hangars seeming to support the Havenhuis.
This tourbillon was shot in a city. This unexpected discovery, made me happy, as I love discovering new spots in surprising places. This photograph features an element surrounded by a tree, and old white house, a wooden table and chairs, and a cloudy sky.
