This black and white picture features a beautiful Art Deco door, which looks like an accordion.

This original Accordion door in Brussels immediately sets the tone for the beautiful house one is about to enter. Indeed, by observing its lines, shapes, and materials, one understands that Art Deco is its mainstream and that originality, contrast, simplicity, and glamor will lead the dance in every corner of every room of the house.

Contrary to many architectural door designs, great importance was given to the entrance. The architect understood that the latter was not just a detail. It is one of the main elements that will awaken the first impression of its visitors. They may either love the Accordion door, or be totally indifferent to it.

Somewhere over the Rainbow

When I visit monuments and tourist sites, I love discovering what lies behind the secret of the success of a place. I like surrounding the building and seeing what is happening at the back, as this often represents the true identity and story of the jewel because it is less exposed and prone to admiring looks. My photographs archive is full of these kinds of pictures.

“Somewhere over the Rainbow” is one of the many examples; look at the house and ask yourself what you see. What does the gem remind you? What is the meaning of it? Is it tranquility? Emptiness? The past? Or all three of them? These questions might help you understand the elegance and charm of a location but primarily catch its depth, heritage, and transmission.

This photo was taken in Brussels from the window of a villa and showcases a typical view of Brussels' streets. Houses which stand neatly next to each other which here and there some beautiful shy trees.

Being originally from Belgium there are certain views which will always attract my eye. This photograph is one of them as it showcases calmness and serenity which are so typical for my lovely country of origin. I also fell in love with the Rijtjeshuisjes, the “row houses” which can be found in North European countries and must have been witness to so much historical events throughout the centuries, be it during the Roaring Twenties, the 19th century or the Golden Age. I think it’s the mixture of various architectural streams and their surroundings which create powerful and touching sights.
