I love shooting staircases because their design and forms can lead to various ways and stories. I shot this photograph in a house in the Southern part of Belgium. At first, the house didn’t speak to me, but everything changed when I discovered its staircase, which was mind-blowing. It seemed as if the designer had put all his energies, talent, and creativity in the stairwell, which turned out to be a game of forms and light. The result is impressive and gives way to a myriad of inventive, funny and original interpretations. I immediately thought of a wave when I saw this picture. You know, one of these waves which grip people from the sea to the sky and open the doors to Lalaland and Wonderland. And isn’t this what we all long for? Escaping to a fascinating and enchanting world?
