I adore Le Bon Marché in Paris as I feel I am penetrating a dream world whenever I visit this beauty. A surprising and unexpected happening is always going on, which is, in my opinion, the key to the success of that store.
“XX” was a one-second shot, as it was vital for me to capture the momentum when none of the clients on the escalator were looking in my direction. That precise moment where none of them were aware they were being closely watched was crucial. It offered me the chance to grasp and reveal a different side of human nature.
When observing closer, you will notice that every soul in “XX” seems lost in its universe and that the atmosphere is quite intimate, although I shot the photograph in a vast public space.
I love these vulnerable and unguarded scenes, as they enable me to immortalize a spontaneous and authentic picture in a categorized, staged, and uniformized world.
