Medici’s Door Games, Florence, Italy

This photo was taken in Florence in the house of the Medici's family. I loved the way these doors seem to play a restless and dream game. When I visited the Riccardi Medici Palace in Florence I felt I had just landed in Alice in Wonderland because of Medici's door games.

Florence had an tremendous impact on me. Whenever I wandered around, my eye got caught by a magical detail.

When I visited the Riccardi Medici Palace, I felt like I had just landed in Alice in Wonderland because of its incredible door games. Indeed, one door led to a story, another to a treasure, and the third to a stunning view.

The result is this picture, which I believe, summarizes Florence. A city that will never stop surprising its visitors and whose beauty is unexpected. Because of its original and breathtaking aesthetics.

A Renaissance View, Florence Italy

This photo was taken in Florence and features the view from a window on Florence. The view looks like a Renaissance painting and there is a red chair in front of the window which is not directed to the window view.

One of my favorite cities is the Renaissance city of Florence. Visiting it for the first time was a true revelation on a personal and photographic level.

I love this photo as it reflects my feeling towards this city. No matter where you stand, look and breathe, you will always be surrounded by beauty, art and dreams.

I shot this photo on a gloomy day. There was no sun and no clouds to populate and dramatize the sky, yet everything seemed to fall into place.

The beautiful and old-fashioned burgundy sofa suited the landscape, which was slowly but surely appearing to its audience. It was like a daily rebirth as every day in Florence is filled with mesmerizing and surprising discoveries, leading to a blissful mind’s Renaissance.

This photo was taken in Florence in a palace in one of the hotel lobbies, which succeeds to create an amazingly private and personal atmosphere, thanks to its many discreet and beautiful corners.

People sometimes ask why I’m passionate about lobbies. One of the reasons is that I love the effect of surprise some of them have on me. I discovered lobbies which kept me flabbergasted because of their overwhelming beauty and taste.

This photo is titled ‘The impatient audience’ as its magnificence reminded me of the breathtaking halls I visited throughout the years. I felt the tables and chairs were waltzing around me, while the surrounding sofas were chaperoning the dancing couples. The balcony, which was probably hiding a prince or a princess, was offering an invaluable view on the moment and its hostess, represented by the magnificent flower bouquet.

And then, I suddenly awoke from my momentary rêverie, realized I was in Florence and understood why so many artists had lost their heart in the Renaissance city par excellence.

A star is born, Florence, Italy

This photo was taken in the hallway of an old building in Florence and features a pram in the middle of a staircase passage. Light reflections are set on the pram which is surrounded by beautiful blue and yellow wallpaper colors. Corridor photography always surprises me when entering corridors as I never know what will appear when reaching my final destination.

When visiting a city for the first time, I love entering its buildings to catch a glimpse of the place’s architecture, atmosphere, and history. The town’s residential area is an integral part of its discovery as it was built according to the needs and taste of its inhabitants. But, most importantly, it remains unguarded to the needs of tourism, which sometimes overthrow its authenticity. This photograph, shot in a building in Florence, underlines its undeniable need for aesthetics. A beautiful design on the walls, balancing between blue and yellow, and the light emerging from the top floors of the staircase, seem to represent the welcoming committee for its visitors. The stairs, the black and white tiles, the arch, and the colors conciliate to offer all the attention needed to a little star in a pram.

This photo was taken in Florence while walking around and next the Arno river. I came across these brave kayaking people who were obviously going to face a humongous storm.

Many painters visited Florence to improve the colors and consistency of the drama of the sky in their creations. I understood the reason for this the minute I set foot in the majestic Renaissance city. The colors which appeared in the sky during sunset and sundown were strikingly impressive as there were tints, I had never seen before. Being a big fan of thunders, rain showers and a grey sky, I got the full load as I was running back to the hotel. The intensity and grandiosity of the clouds were such as I had the feeling the city had been created to fit its sky. While looking at the Arno river I realized that people were kayaking, and I could sense the unforgettable memories Florence’s weather was about to offer these optimistic sportswomen and men.
